Bushwick CrossFit is a strength and conditioning facility that produces results by effectively and efficiently combining powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and high intensity cardio. There is not a program anywhere that works with a greater diversity of tools, modalities, and drills--all taught with focus on proper form and execution of movements.

CrossFit Level 1

Naomie has been coaching at Bushwick CrossFit since Spring 2016. Her relationship with fitness started with HIIT classes, which piqued her interest in learning more about this-so-called “CrossFit”. She took her first intro class at Bushwick CrossFit and immediately felt the urgency to join. After receiving her CrossFit Level 1 certification, she began coaching at both CrossFit Prospect Heights and Bushwick CrossFit. While she focuses on Weightlifting, she continues to condition with CrossFit. Naomie understands first hand what a full body transformation means and continues to identify with her students regardless of their age or athletic background.

Yoshi Silverstein

COACH

Bio

Certifications:

- CrossFit Level 1
- 2nd Degree Blackbelt - Lotus Kajukenbo
- PSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor

Yoshi's goal as a coach is to catalyze our athletes' growth and development as athletes and as humans. He loves to see students master new skills, hit new personal records, refine complex movements, and gain confidence in their abilities inside and outside the gym. Yoshi brings a diverse background as an educator, instructor, and guide into his coaching. In his youth, Yoshi spent as much time in the mountains as possible - competing as an alpine ski racer through high school and college, and practicing backcountry skills on family trips to the North Cascades mountains in his homestate of Washington. Yoshi also studied martial arts and fought as a competitive kickboxer in high school. Following college, Yoshi worked for many years as a wilderness guide and environmental educator, including stints in the Olympic Mountains of WA, Selkirk Mountains of Central Idaho, and Arava Desert in Israel. After years of nudging from an old buddy, he finally started CrossFit when he moved closer in towards the city, first in Baltimore, then DC, and then at Bushwick CrossFit when he and his wife moved to NYC. Excited to take his own knowledge and skills to the next level, he jumped at the opportunity to become a coach at BWCF and has only grown in his love for the community here as both a coach and an athlete. When Yoshi isn't coaching or working out, he works as director of a year-long fellowship program for Jewish outdoor, food, farming & environmental educators. He also enjoys playing music and writing. Yoshi lives in Bushwick with his wife, daughter, and pup.

John Li

WEIGHTLIFTING COACH

Bio
Certifications:
-USATF(USA Track& Field) Level 1 Coach
-USAW(USA Weightlfiting) Level 1 Sport Performance Coach
-ACE Certified Personal Trainer
-ACE Certified Fitness Nutrition Specialist
-Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from CUNY Brooklyn College
-Warm Body Cold Mind Weightlifting Intensive Camp Ukraine April 15-29, 2017 Participant

John started his career in a simple Parks & Rec weight room when his friend said it could help him with his basketball skills in 2009. After one workout he quickly gave up trying to make the basketball team and spent most of his days getting stronger. His first love was Powerlifting, in 2014 he entered his first Powerlifting competition as a Junior where he took first place with a total of 1075lbs in the 185lbs weight category. That ended up being his only Powerlifting Competition, after competing he decided to take a break from powerlifting to try Olympic Weightlifting. He was hooked instantly and has been competing in Olympic Weightlifting Competitions since. Just like everyone else he started off as an athlete and was part of our very own Bushwick Boltz. John comes from a strong background of fitness, as a personal trainer with a B.S in Kinesiology, he has also worked with top level athletes at all levels. During his last semester at Brooklyn College he was interning for Velocity Sports Performance, where he got the opportunity to work with College teams & athletes competing at international levels for their respective sports.

Lady Velez

WEIGHTLIFTING AND CROSSFIT COACH

Bio

Certifications:

•USAW (USA Weightlifting) Level 1 Sports Performance Coach

•Precision Nutrition Level 1

•Crossfit Level 1

Lady is one of our Crossfit Level 1 and USAW certified Weightlifting Coaches here at Bushwick Crossfit.

Her background is mostly in the sciences. She has an undergraduate Bachelors degree in Biology from the University of Chicago, a Masters from Stony Brook University, and will be graduating this May 2018 with her Medical Degree from Stony Brook School of Medicine.

Interestingly enough, it was in her 1st year of Medical school that Lady embarked on her fitness journey in hopes of better understanding exercise, nutrition, eating for performance, and injury prevention through strength training. Lady decides to trial test her first CrossFit class in Long Island, where she was attending medical school.

In the last 3 years Lady has specialized her training to Weightlifting, competing in USAW sanctioned meets, as well as partaking in the sport of Powerlifting. She has qualified for the USAW American Open Series, two years in a row now. Lady trains out of JDI Barbell in Long Island City, NY with JDI Weightlifting Team. She also is planning to compete in another Powerlifitng meet, with the hopes of qualifying for Nationals. During her off season she includes Crossfit Competition workouts in her training, competes in local Crossfit competitions, travels, hikes and snowboards when she can.

Another fun fact, on occasion Lady brings her dog to the gym, Junior, and if you come by the gym for one of her Crossfit classes or the Weightlifting Class, you can catch a glimpse of him.

Keith "Sweaters" Moore

Assistant Coach

Bio

Certifications:

  • CrossFit Level 1

Keith grew up in small-town Oklahoma and played a handful of sports in school, but he was always more comfortable reading books than running laps. After graduating college, and gaining a few pounds (well... a lot more than a few) Keith signed up for a free-intro class with some friends. He did some burpees, threw up, went home, and decided something needed to change. Since then, Keith has been CrossFitting in boxes across Brooklyn since 2013, and began assistant coaching at Bushwick CrossFit in January of 2018. Keith believes that everyone has to start somewhere, and is genuinely happy to share his experience and help others accomplish their fitness goals.
